I’ve been a long-time user of Globe GCash. I also enjoy the Globe Rewards promos specially during the holidays where the point value doubles for a certain period of time.
Globe GCash Mastercard
So when I heard about the Globe GCash Mastercard development which essentially makes it a reloadable prepaid card, I had initial hesitations. I thought that Globe was actually taking a step back by making a mobile-based transaction platform back into the usual debit card / prepaid card setup.
But upon deeper inspection and after verifying from a friend in Globe Telecoms, the reloadable prepaid card is actually an add-on feature to the existing GCash platform.
Instead of a ‘step-back‘, it’s an added feature which makes the ‘mobile money‘ more flexible as your GCash money now can be used for a lot of transactions that accepts debit cards with a simple swipe-and-pay and goes hand in hand with the Globe Charge facility. This includes most supermarkets, restaurants, and commercial establishments that accept card transaction.
Crocs Mega Sale: Personal Experience Using the Globe GCash Mastercard
One such instance where the Globe GCash Mastercard was accepted was at a recent Crocs Mega Sale in Filinvest Alabang. Upon the prodding of my shopaholic wife, I finally had a reason to get the Globe GCash Mastercard and gave it a try.
Right then and there, at the entrance, we registered for the Globe GCash Mastercard for only a one-time P100 and attached it to our Globe GCash account. Other features of the prepaid card includes no maintaining balance and no annual fee, You can also withdraw cash from any ATM anywhere in the world that accepts Mastercard and use it to pay online merchants that accepts Mastercard.
I was able to visit a Crocs Mega Sale at least once in the past – when the NBC Tent at Fort Bonifacio still existed. It was huge compared to what we arrived at Crocs Mega Sale in Filinvest Tent.
Anyhow, there were a lot of good deals as well specially for kids and women. My wife got a new pair of Crocs shoes while I got some kiddie Crocs boots for my niece and nephews. I wasn’t able to get one for myself as the men’s section was quite limited.
When we reached the cashier, I was finally able to use my GCash Mastercard debit card for the first time. The cashier had her own Globe Charge where she swiped my debit card.
I was asked for my pin and it was done, quick and easy!
