We officially welcome the Christmas season today, 1st of December! For Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) and their relatives, this also means the season of “padala” or remittances in preparation for the holidays.
Speaking of remittances, do you still remember when Smart Padala was first introduced in the Philippines with celebrity endorser Robin Padilla? It was 2005 then. 1o years forward, Smart Telecommunications now have a much improved Smart Padala, and a new logo to boot.
Smart Padala “PickUp Anywhere“
Basically running on the Smart Money system, the enhanced Smart Padala is offering a new core service called “PickUp Anywhere” which allows an easy and convenient way to send and receive money to and within the Philippines, regardless of their mobile network (which means it doesn’y matter if you are using Sun, Globe, or even Touch Mobile)!
As a secure and safe platform, it guarantees to be claimed only by the nominated mobile number wherever they are in the Philippines as long as they have access to a Smart Padala Center.
As of press time, Smart Padala remittance has a maximum limit of P10,000 per transaction. Each transaction is charged for as low as P25. It’s actually P25 for every thousand, of a fraction thereof.
Actual Use of the Improved Smart Padala
Gadget Gambit tried and documented a real-world transaction earlier today during the press conference of the new Smart Padala feature.
People from Smart Money transferred P2,500 to my Sun Cellular mobile number (basically another telco).
I then received a reference number which I would then need to show to a Smart Padala Center nearest to my location or where ever I want to claim the money.
Upon filling-up a form, I then received a PIN which can be verified by the Smart Padala agent. And then I can finally receive the remittance.

According to Lawrence Ferrer, VicePresident of Smart eMoney, Smart Padala PickUp Anywhere makes it more convenient for customers to send remittances during the holiday rush.
