In a recent exclusive media gathering held at the ASUS Philippine office in Ortigas, Pasig City, ASUS highlighted several key models focused on faster monitor speeds together with larger screens coupled with innovative display features.

These trends pushes ASUS’ development of new monitors adding features on its LCD displays such as 0.5ms, HDR, FreeSync 2, and IPS displays with high refresh rates.

Starting off with the fast ASUS lineup are the ASUS VG258QR and ASUS VG278QR equipped with a 165Hz refresh rate and industry-leading 0.5ms response time.

Another monitor on display was the ASUS VG279Q with an IPS display and a fast refresh rate of 144Hz; a feature unique seen to this gaming monitor.

These monitors eliminate screen tearing with Radeon’s FreeSync, minimize blurring in fast-paced games with Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB), and gives advantage in MOBA games with ASUS’ MOBA mode which highlights health bars’ color on certain MOBA games.

Size Matters

For the large monitor category, the ROG Strix XG32VQR will certainly catch your eye.

Building from its older iteration, ROG Strix XG32VQR now incorporates the following:

  • DisplayHDR 400
  • 144Hz refresh rate
  • 125% sRGB,
  • FreeSync 2 HDR (AMD’s new iteration of its adaptive sync technology)

These features go hand-in-hand to deliver rich in-game colors, wide black and white tones, and screen tear-free games.

Another highlight would be ASUS’ first Dual Full HD (DFHD) LCD monitor, the ROG Strix XG49VQ. With a resolution of 3840×1080, it is enough for 3 simultaneous devices to be plugged and displayed into the monitor.

If you are a content creator, you’d definitely love this as it features a panel rate of 90% DCI-P3, 125% sRGB, and DisplayHDR 400. This means richer colors and contrast. FreeSync 2 HDR also eliminates tears on fast-paced games.

The Lowdown

In summary, we liked everything that we saw specially the ASUS VG278QR and ASUS G258QR. With their 0.5ms response time and 165Hz refresh rates, the price point of P 16,580 and P 17.770, respectively, are decent enough.

Secondly, the ASUS VG279Q‘s combination of 1ms response time and 144Hz refresh rate makes it the first of its kind in the market.

As for the 2 new HDR models – ROG Strix XG32VQR and the Dual Full HD ROG Strix XG49VQ – both have an excellent color reproduction and high refresh rates. As long as you have P 35,850 and P 65,270 (respectively) to spare, then you’d want this for your next gaming setup.
