Lenovo Unveils Legion Y740 Gaming Laptop

Last February 28, Lenovo unveiled their first ever device to include an NVIDIA® Geforce RTX graphics card, the Lenovo Legion Y740. It coincided with the opening of the Lenovo 1st Legion Concept Store in the Philippines as well – at the 4th floor of the Annex Building at SM City North Edsa.

Style + High Performance for Gaming

At first glance, the Y740 is seemingly a refresh of the Y730 — using almost the same chassis design and just shy of being 20mm (19.95mm) thick! The only difference of the Y740 from the Y730 is that the former now uses the new mobile RTX 2060 graphics card instead of the now old GTX 1060, meaning that it is capable of using the NVIDIA ray tracing and DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) features.

The Legion Y740 is really sleek and minimalistic for a gaming laptop; even viable for being brought into meetings without anyone batting an eye. Yet, it’s packed with some serious firepower by having an

  • Intel Core i7-8750H processor
  • 16GBs of overclockable RAM
  • 1TB (HDD) + 256GBs (SSD) of storage

…plus 15.6″ IPS panel that supports 144Hz as well as slim bezels that only tech enthusiasts would notice how powerful this device actually is.

The Y740 is also currently one of the few laptops that uses the all-new mobile RTX GPUs in such a small form factor, props to Lenovo for that!

Almost all of the I/O ports are also at the back so you don’t have to worry about wires cluttering up your precious mouse or keyboard space when you’re gaming on the go.

The laptop also features a Thunderbolt 3 Type-C port on the side for future-proofing by being able to use an external GPU whenever any newer ones come out, retaining the usability of the device.

On a side note — during a short interview with Philippines’ 4P Manager for Legion and Desktop Mr. Tristan Gonzales, only the Y740 is being released in the Philippines, the Y540 may come sooner but there is no announcements yet as of now.

Additionally, the Philippine release of the Y740 only uses the 2060 variant, other models that use the 2070 Max-Q and up to the 2080 Max-Q will only be available in other countries.
